Raymond Chandlers Writing Techniques in The Big Sleep Essay -- Chandl

Raymond Chandlers Writing Techniques in The Big Sleep I sat at my desk, wondering what I could possibly write about The Big Sleep. I mean, there are so many another(prenominal) possibilities. This guy, Raymond Chandlers writing style is so different from anything I have ever read before, that there are many things that I could talk about. I heard that Chandler one time said, I live for syntax It does not surprise me that he would say something along those lines. I mean, this generator is all over the page with different writing techniques. Whether it is his use of similes or the lack of punctuation, Chandlers novel is easy to read, process and enjoy. I wouldnt say that this book requires an in-depth denotation to understand the plot. The style that Chandler writes in is slowly understood. His narrative voice is almost what I would consider conversational. Conversational, in the soul that everyday speech is very mistakable to the written language of this novel it is uncommon to write the same way that one talks. It was easy for me to hear the voices of Marlowe and Vivian in my head I could hear the biting tones of the protagonist as I read. The flow of this novel does not have the normal novelistic style that most books consist of that is, layered, detailed and a bit long-winded sometimes. It is written very much how people talk to one another. Chandler uses a lot of slang, not in conversations, but in his narrative. In order to easily describe the way Chandler writes it is best to break down a few bits and pieces of the text. For instance, the lack of punctuation throughout Chandlers text is an example of his style. It takes a while to pass a semi-colon or a colon anywhere in the novel. I have already ... ...the spice of life, is it not? Chandler is probably one of the easiest writers to remember once you have read Chandler, it is not easy to forget the style he writes in. The story itself may be forgotten, but his languag e, his rhythm, his style, never is. Chandler was lucky in the sense that he was in the right place at the right time, his books became well-known and well read almost immediately after publication. These days, it is much harder to have much(prenominal) an instant success as Chandler did. Chandler was lucky indeed, but it was not entirely luck that put him at the top of the lists for one of the best hard-boiled researcher writers ever. His witty, charismatic style did that for him. Until the recent battle between Gov. George W. Bush and Vice-president Al Gore for the presidency, this new generation of American voters has never witnessed a controversial election. Historically, there pass on been problematic elections allowing voters to question this system. The Electoral College is now a make for open to criticism and debate, specifically because many do not understand its origin or purpose today. On November 7, 2000, Election Day, I was excited to generate an official voter. Considering myself mature, responsible, and finally of age to vote, I had mai conduct my registration, received my voters card, ready to become a participant in one of the just about crucial events of the year. I was a faithful supporter of my candidate, crossing my fingers in hopes of victory. That night I watched CNN, eating my dinner and sipping a Diet Coke when the spot announced Al Gore had won Florida, which held twenty-five electoral votes. Two hundred and seventy are needed to win, and presidential candidates Bush and Gore had switched leads all night. Each state held a close percentage ranging from an average 2-6 percent difference in votes between candidates. Florida had been anticipated as a Republican victory, which led to disappointment among Republican voters when its electoral votes were awarded to Al Gore. I continued to watch as each state was announced and electoral votes were awarded to either candidate. About an minute of arc later, Florida became too close to call and CNN among other st... ... situation may cause discouragement in some voters, but in others motivation to become a participant in voting for entrusted electors to select our next president. Between the presidential candidates, whomever wins among this controversy should be respected and relied upon to reunite a divided country. Americans must have faith in a system that despite its flaws works and has set us apart from other nations in ourfreedoms and rights.Works CitedBest, Judith A. The Choice of the People? Film critic Hal Hinson enjoys watching movies. In fact, he fell in lov e with movies at the same time that he remembers being fearful for the first time. He was watching Frankenstein, and, as he described in his essay In Defense of Violence, it played with his senses in such a expressive style that he instantaneously fell in love with movies. . The danger was fake, but Hinson described that it played with his senses in such a way that he some instantly fell in love. Hinson feels that most movie lovers were incited by the same hooks as himself. Movies were thrilling, dangerous, and mesmerizing (Hinson 581-2). Hinson says that as a culture, we like violent art. Health and Happiness :: Happiness Essays

During the fall semester of 2004 I participated in a program to improve my habits of sizable living. I set goals for myself in four different argonas, Exercise, Nutrition, Sleep, Social or Family Time, Play/Laugh/Cr decimatee and, Spiritual development. During the three months of September, October and November I experienced roughly challenges and some successes. In the area of exercise my beginning goal was to play soccer e actually day and try and lift weights at the gym. This started out rightfully easy because I had soccer everyday and lifted weights on a unchanging basis. After the season was over I get hold of found that it has beget more difficult to be discipline about running and lifting weights due to trying to improve my grades from the lack of effort during soccer season. The next area I would like to talk about is the nutrition area. I have found this category to be one of the most consistent areas to keep going. It is not very hard to eat something healthy with ev ery meal. But, I have found now that I have more time on my hands it is easier to eat more junk food than I would like to because I just eat what ever looks good to me at the time. I do not reckon about what I am eating like I did at the beginning of the semester.Third is the Sleeping category which was the easiest for me to keep up with. I am one of those people that if I do not get enough sleep the night before it is hard for me to function that next day. So, I have tried to get a minimum of seven hours of sleep every night. It does not seem like a hard task but when you are in school, playing a sport and having a relationship with a girl it is hard to get seven hours of sleep every night. I estimate out how to keep on a consistent basis. The social/family time was a good one to have. It helped me talk to my parents on a more consistent basis. By talking to them it made me feel like we had a good trustworthy relationship with them. There were also times when I found myself not ta lking to them because I was to bust with either school soccer or my girlfriend. But, for the most part I felt this was beneficial for my relationship with my parents.
